Feeding a fasting person: small gifts, great reward

Many people give more in Ramadan, but it is not always clear where a gift will help most. This piece is meant to make that easier.

“Whoever gives iftar to a fasting person will have a reward like theirs, without the fasting person's reward being reduced at all.”

— Jami at-Tirmidhi

Where giving goes furthest

  • Neighbours first — find out who near you is struggling.
  • Dry food — rice, lentils, oil and dates last for weeks.
  • Little and often — a small daily gift instead of one large one.

Keep zakat and sadaqah separate

Many people pay zakat in Ramadan too. Give zakat and general sadaqah through separate funds so zakat reaches only those entitled to it.
